I originally started this blog because I wanted to discuss ecommerce. My original thought was, ‘there isn’t a lot of info out there for small businesses to launch ecommerce sites or explore what’s happening in the field’. I spoke with friends, trying to tweak topics and I realized I have a ridiculously wide range of interests and didn’t want to be tied down addressing only one facet of my life.
Whenever I went to write on one of the original topics I found it tedious. Not because I didn’t enjoy the subject, I just didn’t feel like writing. It became a chore and that wasn’t going motivate me to produce interesting content or to stay committed. When you write/do something that you could give a rats ass about, it shows.
When I talk to young 20-somethings it always seems like in spite of everyones best attempts at bravery, no one has it ‘together’ (whatever together is). Unfortunately, society makes it seem like you should be on your way after graduating from a good school, but when you think about it, school prepares you for a life that doesn’t exist. There’s no syllabus, grade scale, attendance policy etc. There are no right and wrong answers in life and you can’t study.
How do you establish yourself in an organization? How do you have constructive disagreements with your boss? How to negotiate a raise, title change etc. These things have HUGE implications on your life but for many young’ns we have no clue how to go about it.
After countless happy hours where I’d talk to others and ask that good ole’ line, “so what do you do?” followed by the equally appealing, “so do you like your job?” and get the tepid response of, “it’s ok”, i knew i wasn’t alone. While I’m not quite sure what i want, i know what i don’t want- to be around boring, unmotivated and dispassionate people. if im gonna spend the majority of my life carving out a place for me in this world, i might as well try and have as much fun with it possible. With that being said I want this blog to speak to those like myself who are passionately trying to figure it out and find out who they are in this world.
